By 2020 St. Petersburg will demonstrate the highest level of all wastes recycling. Such goal was determined by the project of the long-term target investment program for solid industrial and domestic wastes management. The program will have been completely introduced by 2020. At the moment the program is being developed by the specialized committees of the St. Petersburg Government.
According to the program, within 9 years St. Petersburg will turn towards the industrial recycling of all solid domestic wastes. Instead of the existing waste-burial sites JSC “Plant KPO” and “Novosiolki”, which have already run out their service life and must be closed, the city will introduce two new burial sites. The areas of the already functioning burial sites will be re-cultivated. Moreover, by 2020 St. Petersburg SUE “Plant MPBO-2” and “Plant MPBO” will have developed their functioning with the purpose of better management of the city wastes. The city will also start building of several up-to-date waste-recycling enterprises.
The primary goal of the Forum is the provision of complete ecological safety to the megacity citizens by the means of reduction of waste influence upon the city environment, as well as the maximum commercial use of secondary raw materials and introduction of highly efficient system of waste management.
With respect to the large-scale schedule of the St. Petersburg Government for introduction of the efficient system of waste-management all industrial enterprises will have to pay special attention to one of the primary exhibition-and-congress events in the sphere of environmental protection and rational nature management – the XII International Ecological Forum “Ecology of Big Cities” and the International specialized exhibition “Waste management: technologies and equipment” which is held within the Forum. The exhibition will demonstrate the specialized exposition of waste-recycling technologies and industrial use of secondary raw materials “RECYCLING EXPO”.
The Forum will be held in the Pavilion 7 of the exhibition complex “LENEXPO” on March 21-23, 2012. the Forum organizer if JSC “LENEXPO” acting under official support and with participation of the federal and regional governmental authorities, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, branch associations, specialized and business mass-media.
The oncoming exhibitions organized within the Forum will demonstrate foreign and national equipment, technologies and services used in the sphere of waste management and destruction, ecological monitoring, re-cultivation of areas, waste-water purification, water treatment, water supply and disposal, air purification, software for information support of environmental activity, services in the sphere of ecological audit and consulting, etc.
The rich business program of the Forum will comprise conferences, seminars and round-table discussions held with international participation. All topics will be devoted to the matters of waste management, the environmental policy in Russian cities, the organization of ecological monitoring in city area, the matters of urban geology, liquidation of earlier caused ecological damage, the information support of environmental activity, introduction of innovative ecological technologies and equipment, etc.
We invite representatives of governmental authorities and deputies of different ranks, directors and chief specialists of the companies providing the whole scope of environmental services and all those who are concerned about ecological safety and environmental protection to participate in the International ecological forum “Ecology of Big City”.

In 2011 the International Ecological Forum assembled 182 exhibitors from Russia and 14 foreign countries and occupied 6.115 sq. m. of exhibition space. 4 exhibitions, 2 specialized expositions, 18 events of business program and 5 visits to industrial sites were provided to 3.864 experts from 73 cities of Russia and 23 foreign countries.
